A sneak peak at this week's Shaken and Stirred Featuring Jesse Belle-Jones

Oh yes... the steamy heat of spring.... Here it comes darling! And this week's very special featured performer at Shaken and Stirred is none other than Seattle's very own JESSE BELLE-JONES! Joining her is our own hometown hero of haute-ness CREAMY STEVENS with the blushing debut of MARINARA STARDUST and the GoGo Goodness of EVILYN VINYL. As always our resident heart throb DJ JESS gives it to you just like you like it while Queens of the Goodtimes, RUNAROUND SUE and SCOOTER PIE give you more than you ever asked for! No Cover! Free huckleberry vodka shots brought to you after each set courtesy of 44 Degrees North Vodka!. GoGo starts at 930, Burlesque sets at 10 and 11 with our very special secret track at 1am. Bring your friends, your lovers and everyone in between to what Time Out NY calls "Your Perfect Wednesday Night."

What exactly happened last week? Well the exactitude has surrendored to the collective unconscious and what we are left with are the very wonderful musings of SCOOTER PIE:

"Shaken & Stirred was voted one of the top five things to do in all of New York City in this week's Time Out NY magazine! Guess the secret of "NYC's best kept-secret" is out.. We had a ball at the show this week, which featured the many charms of "the Asian Sexation" Calamity Chang, the S&S debut of the charming Charlie Gunn, double doses of my much-loved partner in crime Runaround Sue and yours truly Scooter Pie, and hot hot hot gogo courtesy of La Divina Gransparkle. Spotted in the audience were our good buddies Albert Cadabra and Danger Doll, keeping the party going all night. There were 3, count 'em, 3 birthdays being celebrated in the crowd by three lovely ladies who duked it out during our dance contest- I'm hoping to see the winner back on our stage again sometime soon! See ya next week, ladies n' gents- it's gonna be officially spring, so no excuses! Til then, party on, kids. XOXO SP"

And now a very sweet sneak peek at JESSE BELLE JONES:

  1. What does Burlesque mean to you?

Beyond the textbook definition, burlesque to me is a performance outlet for my ideas and sensuality and sexuality, about the politics of the body, about images, both glamorous and grotesque, that I encounter in the world, and about creating a space in which both performer and audience can feel safe and confident about feeling sexy.

  1. How did you choose your name?

Most apparently, it is an homage to Jezebel, a character from the bible, who was a fierce leader and ruthless politician who was in the unfortunate position of being a woman. She was executed for the latter of these crimes. More importantly (to me), however, I chose "Jesse" because of its gender neutrality. I play with the flexibility of gender in a lot of my work and wanted both feminine and masculine identities available to me.

  1. Who was your first celebrity crush?

Danny Elfman is the only celebrity to whom I've written fan mail. I was OBSESSED with his work in high school. He never wrote back (the fool).

  1. What are you reading these days and why?

I'm reading Tennessee Williams' memoirs right now. They're so juicy! My awesome friend and room mate read them and is lending them to me. I love the equal affection and disdain he seems to have for people. Plus, he was a huge slut and I admire that in just about anyone. :]

  1. What is your favorite performance antecdote?
I started doing burlesque when I was still in graduate school. When I first began, I was teaching freshman level courses that comprised mostly of students too young to come to the bars where my shows were. I didn't consider that when I started teaching senior level classes that my students were a couple of years older. Within the first week of teaching my first 400-level Syntax course, a guy from my class showed up at one of my shows. I recognized him immediately. He either didn't recognize me through the pounds of makeup and drag hair I had on, or he was polite enough never to acknowledge the chance meeting.

  1. Please distill your life philosophy into either a couplet or haiku:
Let's just get naked
Go outside and make some art
The rest will work out
7. How can the people find out more about you?
I'm assistant producer/choreographer/dancer for my burlesque troupe: Sinner Saint Burlesque Review
I'm co-producer of the Seattle chapter of Naked Girls Reading: Naked Girls Reading Seattle
I'm the events coordinator the annual Seattle-based educational event: BurlyCon
People can friend me on Face Book
People can follow @JesseBJones on Twitter

BIO:
Navigating a femail body through academia and the world at large, Jesse Belle-Jones is one bluestocking bettie whose edgy antics and sultry grace will leave audiences scratching their heads, and panting for more.
With her strong dance background and academic approach, her stunning concepts and choreograpy both challenge and captivate. Jesse's acts are packed with tantalizing food for thought served up in a sharp, scintillating style that is gauranteed to keep her on your mind.
Jesse is co-producer of Sinner Saint Burlesque and the Seattle chapter of Naked Girls Reading and can be regularly spotted dancing at the Noc Noc, Burlesque Behind the Pink Door, and Oddfellows West Hall in her hometown of Seattle, Wa. She is thrilled to be a cast member of "Behind the looking glass: A burlesque Alice in Wonderland" as well as a member of the Seattle cast of "SHINE: a burlesque musical, " traveling with the production to the NY Fringe Festival in 2010. Jesse is also the Events Coordinator for the Seattle-based annual BurlyCon international education burlesque event.

A Sneak Peek at this week's featured perfomer: ALBERT CADABRA

This week we are amped to bring one of our favorite magic men and boylesque perfomers: ALBERT CADABRA to Shaken and Stirred! Our guest performer this week is none other than the sugary sweet GINGER BROWN. Making her debut in the Sugar Shack is LINDY LOLLIPOP and giving great gogo is HAZEL HONEYSUCKLE. Hosted by RUNAROUND SUE and SCOOTER PIE with DJ JESS on the ones and twos. Free Shots after each burlesque set provided by 44 Degrees North Huckleberry Vodka. No Cover! Doors at 930, Burlesque sets at 10 and 11 with the SECRET TRACK at 1am.

But first! Our recap of last week's Shaken and Stirred by Scooter pie:

We brought March in with a BANG here at Shaken & Stirred. What a thrill it was (and, based on the reaction from the audience, our crowd certainly agreed) to have the sideshow spectacular-ity of featured performer the Lady Aye, who wowed us with a daring (and sexy!) straightjacket escape AND "down the hatch without a scratch" sword-swallowing feats! Guest Dame Cuchifrita (of Brown Girls Burlesque fame) brought the hotness- literally- with an act involving candle wax, Iris Explosion made our inner geeks drool with some Ms. Pacman action (complete with marshmallows), and this week's go-go sensation Foxy Vermouth shook it up, down, and all around, and left us wanting more, more, more!! Runaround Sue dazzled with her Snow Lion act (my current fave of hers.. a must-see!), and I did a little tribute to County Cork with an Elvis Costello song. In like a lion? HELL YEAH!! GRRR... See ya next week!

ALBERT CADABRA: The Great Deceiver is a professional, award-winning, comedy sideshow magician who delivers powerful, amazing and devilishly wild magic. Albert pushes and twists the boundaries of the art of magic with unique performances including; eating razor blades and a 3’-long balloon, hammering 6” spikes into his face, electrocuting himself with 2,000 volts of electricity and turning his assistant into a gorilla. He makes people and animals appear and vanish at will and escapes from chains, shackles, locked crates and straight jackets—all with the flair, style, class and great sense of humor you would expect from this seasoned, professional magician.

  1. What does Burlesque mean to you? - Keeping people excited, slightly turned on and completely entertained.

  1. How did you choose your name? - It was given to me at birth.

  1. Who was your first celebrity crush? - Winona Ryder no wait, at 10yo it was Kristy Mcnichol and her perfectly feathered hair!!!

  1. What are you reading these days and why? - Water for Elephant because it has to do with a redhead from upstate NY who runs away and joins the circus. That's my life.

  1. What is your favorite performance anecdote? - It has to be when I was hosting the Rockabilly festival at coney island when my volunteer for the human blockhead was Michelle of Americas Next Top Model fame. When she came up onstage she decided to pull the nail out of my nose using her teeth! It was incredible. Also, after that show I was told she was Michelle from amercas top model, the one with the flesh eating bacteria!!!! Now whenever I do that bit, I tell the my volunteer the story and that they have the choice to use their hands or their teeth and a surprisingly large number will use their teeth. I love it!

  1. Please distill your life philosophy into either a couplet or haiku: Life will never be a bore. If from an audience I hear a big roar!!! It makes me feel good not misunderstood, and that love is mutal of course!

Shaken and Stirred, last week and a sneak peek at featured performer EKATERINA

We are super excited to be featuring one of our all time favorite performers: EKATERINA! With special guest - none other than the stellar MINNIE TONKA! Gogoing her heart out and right into yours is RUBY HIPS. Hosted by RUNAROUND SUE and SCOOTER PIE with resident heart throb DJ JESS. The Delancey - 930, no cover Burlesque sets at 10 and 11 - this week a super special secret track at 1am featuring the ladies from the DANGEROUS CURVES AHEAD tour. Out of town? Watching it all live as it happens at www.nycliverock.com

Last week's Recap by SCOOTER PIE:

We had one heckuva good-looking audience at Shaken & Stirred last night, if I do say so myself- and the action onstage was stunning. That gal who puts the "gore" in "goregous", Creamy Stevens, was our featured performer, and she wowed. Paloma Negra, who had served as S&S's gogo gal in its first year (2006!) graced us with a lovely act, we welcomed Voodoo Onyx, who did a little voodoo for us, to our stage for the first time, and the beautiful Hazel Honeysuckle acted as gogo/kitten extraordinaire! We celebrated a new beer game winner, and had some real tough competition for the dance contest- there sure were some mighty fancy dancers in the crowd. Thanks to everyone who made the night such a blast- see you next Wednesday!

And here is a sneak peak at this week's featured performer: EKATERINA! Find out more about the party here:

Shaken and Stirred! Last weeks recap and a sneak peak at this week's featured dancer: THE MAINE ATTRACTION

SHAKEN AND STIRRED!

Join in on the debauchery this week when we present: Shaken and Stirred featuring THE MAINE ATTRACTION with special guest performer GOGO HARDER, the debut of DIVINA DUVUAL and the gogo stylings of IRIS EXPLOSION. Every wednesday at The Delaney (168 Delancey St between Clinton and Attorny) with DJ JESS, RUNAROUND SUE and SCOOTER PIE! 930. No cover! Free shots provided after each burlesque set by 44 Degrees North Vodka. Your mamma never told you life could be this good.

Recap: 2/2 Shaken and Stirred featuring HARVEST MOON:

True to our name, the show last night (2/2) really shook and stirred up one hell of a good time last night. Despite the wet yuck outside, we had a lovely & lively crowd that was wowed (that rhymed!) by the dancing ability of our special guest (all the way from Portland, OR) Angelique DeVil, the sexy grace & hula-hoop antics of our featured performer Harvest Moon, and were warmed up and kept REAL hot by the go-go goodness of Nasty Canasta. RunAround Sue delighted us all with her signature fan dance to "I Just Wanna Make Love to You", and I (Scooter Pie) had a blast singing for everyone. It was a night of variety, y'all! We also gave a big warm welcome-back to DJ Jess, just back from a jaunt to Berlin, and he sure had some amazing tunes spinning all night long. Upon realizing the winner of our weekly beer-drinking contest had picked up his second (or third?) victory with S&S, he was awarded with a new nickname: "The Champion" (become a show regular, and YOU, too, could get yourself nicknamed!). Fellow local performers Hard Corey, Narcisisster, DeeDee Luxe, Nicki Miller & Airin Syren of the Skies were in attendance and helped us keep dancing til 1, when we busted out the Shaken and Stirred Secret Track!

And now for a sneak peak at this weeks featured performer: THE MAINE ATTRACTION

  1. What does Burlesque mean to you
Burlesque means the WORLD to me!

  1. How did you choose your name?

My name is Maine so I decided to play on that. An event is something you go to or attend. An attraction is something you're drawn to...I am The MAINE Attraction...

  1. Who was your first celebrity crush?

Prince, DUH!

  1. What are you reading these days and why?
Woodpecker In Still Life by Tom Robbins. I read Jitterbug Perfume and fell in love with his stories. And Celestine Prophecy because it was a gift from my sister.

  1. What is your favorite performance anecdote?
Audience participation within my acts:)

  1. Please distill your life philosophy into either a couplet or haiku:
Impossible, I'm a Southern and long winded, lol

7. How can the people find out more about you?
www.themaineattraction.com and on Facebook: Maine Anders

Bio:

International entertainer "The Maine Attraction" grew up in a small town in Georgia and moved to New York City after she discovered performing was all she wanted to do. She landed her first professional dance job when she auditioned for MTV's Fight For Your Rights Campaign. From then on she started working the dance circuit performing in private supper clubs and popular NYC underground clubs.

Her tenacious spirit helped her to persevere and become one of New York's most celebrated Burlesque Performers. Given the opportunity to express her creativity as a dancer, actress and singer, she has performed in MGM Grand's "Studio 54", Buddha Bar in Beirut, Lebanon and The Latin Grammys. Her ability to transform herself into a myriad of characters gives her the opportunity to play roles that are off the beaten path. She has starred in Miente, My Normal, I Was A Tranny Werewolf and Pariah. Her role in Million In The Mirror, a PSA for breast cancer research, recently won the viewers choice award on the Lifetime channel.

Captivating audiences every time she hits the stage through her spectacular performances has become her reputation. From her humble beginnings of working the dance circuit, she attracted the attention of talent agents who soon had her performing alongside an entourage of greats including: legends James Brown and Lionel Richie, pop sensations Jessica Simpson and Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes, and burlesque divas like Dita Von Tease and Gentry de Paris. A muse for numerous visual artists, she has collaborated with conceptual photographer LaToya Ruby Frazier and multimedia extraordinaire, Matthew Barney. She has been requested for exclusive fashion events hosted by fashion icons like Patricia Field and Marc Jacobs and has toured with Grammy nominee DJ Tiesto. Go Magazine honored Maine as one of the women in their annual issue "100 Women Women We Love." She was chosen to be one of the creme de la creme, in OUT Magazine's spread on New York City Nightlife Performers.

Her uninhibited rhythmic style and sense of humor blend an ensemble of samba, belly dance, African, improvisation and contortion, into a movement she has coined, "Burlesque Fusion". Maine is energetic, sensual, and wildly charismatic. She evokes an old kind of glamour that is naughty but cheeky in her burlesque performances many times being compared to the extraordinary Josephine Baker and Lucille Ball. Her tour with Murray Hill and Hendricks Gin garnered the attention of Parisian talent agent who booked her for 9 appearances in Paris. She travels extensively nationally and internationally performing, acting and has begun a recording project that is sure to enhance her stage shows. The Maine Attraction will continue to grace any stage where she can let her creativity ride.

RIP Skwaking Chicken

It's true... the chicken lost his head during the secret track last night at Shaken and Stirred...And it might have been my Spiderwoman skills that brought down a small part of the wall last night, but hey! Those are good times. Grace Gotham was serving up some hot nuts with her golden throat and Boots Lamae certainly got the room going with her go-go wiggles. We missed DJ Jess but are always super excited with Twig the Wonderkid makes his way to our turntables! If you missed us last week, never fear - we'll back this Wednesday - fiercer than ever!

And don't forget next week brings us Shimmying the Spoken Word at Le Poisson Rouge in collaboration with the Inspired Word. And for all our friends in MA, DC, and Jersey, we'll be coming you way in teh weeks to come... check out our flyers, our website... and our deep beating hearts <3
