January Burlesque News -Auditions, Inaugurations, DanceParties, Cole Porter, TRASH! and the Berkshires

January 7th:

We sure are starting off the year right... not only with the most delicious huckleberry vodka shots (from North 44 degrees) but also with the darling burlesque beauties we have lined up for Wed. Night. Join the ladies of Starshine Burlesque, Little Brooklyn and Creamy Stevens, along with your hosts for the evening - Miss RunAround Sue and Legs Malone. And what a special treat we have for you! Gracing our go-go boxes this month are none other than Miss Coney Island, Gal Friday and the soon to be expatriot, Pinkie Special.... FREE SHOTS and our infamous Go-Go Contest at midnight.

And, as always - the amazingly devilishly handsome DJ Jess

SUGAR SHACK SOUTH AUDITIONS (VA), GALLERY 5 (2OO MARSHALL) 6-8
Miss RunAround Sue will be joined by fellow Sugar Shack producer Legs Malone on Jan. 12th for Sugar Shack South Auditions. Perfomers are asked to prepare one burlesque piece either classic or modern. Miss Sue is looking more for heart than polish, so works in progress are completely acceptable. No prior experience is required. If performers do not have a piece to present they are still encouraged to come. In addition to prepared pieces, performers will participate in simple movement excercises and improvs. Please bring your music on an ipod. Photos are not required but always appreciated. DR.SKETCHY'S RVA OPENS
Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School is a little Brooklyn drawing club that that has become an international community. Founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, Dr.Sketchy's is a drawing session where the models are costumed performers: Burlesque Dancers, Circus Freaks, Puppeteers.... and the artists are welcome to drink, draw and participate in silly contests (Best left handed sketch? Model's favorite image?). Dr. Sketchy's has expanded to over 50 cities including Tokyo, Rome, London, Paris, Melbourne and now - Richmond. NYC Burlesque producer, Miss RunAround Sue, has stepped up to play the part of HeadMistress of the RVA branch and is scouring the streets of Richmond to bring forth the most engaging models for your artistic development. On Jan. 14th, Gallery 5 will open their doors from 6-9 for the first Dr. Sketchy's in the River City. For only 10$ artists can tease their imagination, sadle up to the bar, and sketch away. Prepare your palate to enjoy delectable treats courtesy of Country's master chef, Greg Zakarian along with premium cocktails from Saaga Vodka. While the cost of entry is nil, staff from local food kitchen, St. John's Bread & Life, will be on hand collecting donations for other hungry New Yorkers.

TRASH!(NY) The Studio @ Webster Hall
RunAround Sue and Legs Malone are join DJ Jess's regular night of debauchery: TRASH! at their new venue, the Studio @ Webster Hall
Resident DJs Jess and Alex Malfunction spin Brit pop, new wave, indie rock, post punk and dirty electro. We're told that the dress code will be enforced by "door whore Brendon James, post punk rocker, underage American Apparel model, FIT dropout," but they don't say what the dress code is. Although we're guessing tight pants and carefully mussed hair will never let you down. Bonus: 2-for-1 well drinks at 3 a.m.

THE GIRLS OF THE CITY (MA)-Club Helsinki
New York City's own Sugar Shack Burlesque has set up a home away from home here in the Berkshires.Their once a month visits have become the talk of the town since they began last spring. Co-producers and performers RunAround Sue and Legs Malone present an evening of burlesque and side show with some very special guests direct from the Big Apple. Sugar Shack Burlesque has been keeping it sweet since 2006, throwing parties and creating intriguing and fun events at a variety of venues including New York City's The Slipper Room, Lotus, The Kraine Street Theater, Jalopy Speakeasy, and Brooklyn's own Galapagos Art Space. Their more outrageous shows include rollerskating go-go girls, fire dancers and aerial artists suspended from the ceiling. From classic to comedic acts, these ladies encompass a wonderful slice of the vibrant neo-burlesque scene in New York City. Come on out and see what the buzz is all about!
