How Sweet It is....

Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend.

Our Valentine's Show at Jalopy was a magical night. Albert Garzon and Lex Grey performed a cabaret set as well as collaborating with Sugar Shack for the final acts of the evening. Our talented host, Mr. Albert Cadabara kept the night rolling while Legs, Sue and the fire alarm fire of burlesque: Gal Friday shimmied and shook. That venue is really a special place. If you've never been to Jalopy - you gotta check it out: www.jalopy.biz. They book the most amazing music. Next week my absolute favorite guitarist - Kruno, is playing there. And next door is a great bar: Moonshine. You can play pool, darts - hell even, grill out in the back yard.

Last night Sue and Legs had separate gigs in the East Village.

At the end of the next week, Sugar Shack will be headin north. We'll be back at our favorite haunt in the Berkshires: Club Helsinki in Great Barrington. Dinner and Burlesque - what more could you want? - two shows, 8 & 10:30. This month with Miss Astrid as host, Dr. Lukki as featured performer and the ladies who bring you the show: Legs Malone and Miss RunAround Sue. www.clubhelsinkiweb.com

And wouldnt you know it - Febuary is so short... already we're back in action at Niagara - where we shake a tail feather the first wed. of every month at NYC's ONLY Burlesque DanceParty: Shaken and Stirred! Resident Hearth Throb DJ Jess on the tables. Door at 9:30, Go-Go and FREE shots through out the night. 8$, Niagara - 7th and A

The next night, Thursday March 5th - marks the one year anniversary of Anti-Mag's monthly happy hour @ Nurse Bettie (107 Norfolk St.). I can't believe its been a year of pin up, cocktails, and soft comfortable couches to lounge in while bringing back the art of conversation. Special performances each month... whose breaking it down for the anniversary? stay tuned....

Hope everyone enjoyed their valentine's.... and remember: Life is hard. Be Kind.

Sugar Shack Burlesque Announces First Production in Virginia

The New York based burlesque company, Sugar Shack Burlesque, announces it's first show in Richmond, Virginia. On March 14th at Gallery 5, Sugar Shack Burlesque will bring together the burlesque talents of both NY and VA in "Cole Porter:In the Flesh". In this cheeky tribute to one of America's best composers, Sugar Shack will bring you an evening of dancing, singing, and innuendo.

Already a staple in NYC and San Francisco, Sugar Shack has expanded in the last year to include monthly productions in the Berkshires of Massachusetts and the Palace of Wonders in Washington Dc. Last Summer, co-founder and producer Miss RunAround Sue brought burlesque to the Hamptons with a weekly show at the beautiful Sole East. Later this march, Sugar Shack has the honor of opening the International Film Festival in Bermuda. But before these ladies head down to the tropics, they'll be bringing the cheeky experience of burlesque to Gallery 5 with their Cole Porter Tribute.

Last month, Miss RunAround Sue (through her burlesque non-profit - Bleeding Hearts Burlesque) co-produced a similarly themed show at the Living Theatre in Manhattan. The Village Voice captured the show nicely. To see the slide show from the Voice, please direct your browser here: http://www.villagevoice.com/slideshow/view/235996

Sugar Shack Burlesque hopes to develop this production further this summer with a large scale production complete with a live orchestra at one of Richmond's most beautiful landmarks.

Stay tuned for more details. If you'd like more information, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thank you to everyone who came out. It was a good turnout and I was happy to see so many people posting their work on the walls during the break. Quite an array of styles and quite interesting.
Next month, Richmond Burlesque Starlette - Boo Boo Darlin' will bring to life the theme: A Tribute to Bettie Page. Join us March 11th at Gallery 5 from 6-9 when the Anti-Art School heats up with this old school pin up inspiration.

Whats been happenin in the Sugar Shack?

Wow - what an exciting past couple weeks we've had.

First was the absolutely decadent Cole Porter Burlesque Tribute show co-produced by our sister company, Bleeding Hearts Burlesque and the Lovely Amber Ray. Although there were a few challenges (such as the previous show running well over an hour and our stage manager not showing up!!) - we still managed to go on with the show. And what a show it was! A dapper audience and the top stars in burlesque and cabaret came together for an enchanting evening sewn together by the talented band, Grandpa Mussellman and they Syncopaters. The Village Voice was there and inspired to create a slide show for the event on their website. For a week, our very own Miss RunAround Sue was on the website's front page.
You can see the sideshow here:
http://www.villagevoice.com/slideshow/view/235996

The next afternoon Legs Malone , Miss RunAround Sue, The Lady Aye and World Famous *BOB* hightailed it up to the Berkshires for two amazing shows at Club Helsinki. What a great bunch of girls to travel with. Next month will be our one year anniversary of producing at this amazing spot. If you're ever in Massachusetts on the last Saturday of the month - come join us!!

Next we had the honor of being the first to dirty-up the newly renovated downstairs lounge (formerly the tiki lounge) at Niagara. We're going on three years of shimmying and shaking in this steamy little hideaway where we produce "Shaken and Stirred" NYC's ONLY Burlesque Danceparty. Our resident hearth throb, DJ Jess from Indierotica was on the tables, La Maia and Jani Gun were on the go-go box, and Melody Sweets and Harvest Moon joined Legs and Sue on the stage. Come on out and see us sometime if the combination of free shots, a danceparty, and burlesque gets your heart swoonin'.

The next day we celebrated Lady D from Anti-Mag (www.anti-mag.com) at Anti-Mag's monthly happy hour, Thirst Fursday, at Nurse Bettie. The whole point of this night is to bring back the art of conversation and give this eye-opening, artist friendly magazine a physical home once a month. Sugar Shack provides a mini-show to break the ice and this month had the pleasure of booking Marlo De Marquise, Veronica Vroom, and Mr. Kenny Law in addition to Sugar Shack's partner in crime, Legs Malone and the one and only, Miss RunAround Sue as host.

Friday was crazy! Imagine four gigglin burlyq girls sitting side by side on a bus down to DC and you'll have a pretty good idea of our afternoon. We played the Palace of Wonders that night which was only a few doors down from Sticky Rice. Miss Sue had agreed to put together a special teaser party for a bachelorette party in the upstairs part of Sticky Rice. So, Legs and Sue did their thing and then hustled back to the Palace to continue the burlesque!! We sold out the venue and saw many loving faces in the crowd! Miss Sue and Legs hosted the night while Veronica Vroom, Boo Boo Darlin, and Ruby Valentine provided additional shimmying and shakin'.

And that brings us to the now... and the future... whats going on in the Sugar Shack over the next few weeks? Well.... stayed tuned, that report will be out later today.

xoxo
